Alexandria: The Feast Day of Saint Nektarios in the Chapel where he was ordained
On Wednesday, November 9, the day of the feast of Saint Nektarios, the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and all Africa, Theodore II celebrated Divine Liturgy in the Chapel of Saint Nektarios in the Holy Church of Saint Savvas the Sanctified, in an atmosphere of intense emotion, also due to the Saint’s special relationship with Alexandria and this specific Church. After all, Saint Nektarios, the new and very popular Saint of the Orthodox Christian Church, whose life was an example of high restraint and a virtuous attitude to life, was ordained at the same Holy Altar.
The faithful who attended the Holy Chapel of Saint Nektarios, experienced with delight the Divine Liturgy which was presided over by their Patriarch, whose missionary activity as a Hierarch in Africa, is a point of reference and a high example to be imitated. At the end, the parishioners of the local Church community sat with him and enjoyed a conversation with sweats and coffee, so that the communication became even more warm, human and friendly.
His Grace Bishop Germanos officiated, while Archimandrite Very Rev.Fr Isaac Tsapoglou chanted the holy hymns with students of the Patriarchal School. It was a tender and sensitive moment, during which tears flowed from the eyes of the students, who are returning to their homeland of Kenya and Tanzania. The Patriarch bid them farewell with love, offering them souvenirs.
He also said goodbye in a particularly warm atmosphere to Mrs. Cleopatra Giapalaki of the Greek Consulate in Alexandria, who is now moving to Berlin, and presented her with gifts of honour and memory of the Patriarchate, wishing her good health and all the best.
It was a beautiful, festive day, lead by the sacred sounds of the Divine Liturgy and the warm aura of the Patriarch in his discussions with the faithful and the priests of the Patriarchal Court.
