A talk on “fighting temptations” was attended by the youth in Melbourne
On 16 March 2023, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios and under the guidance of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, GO Youth Melbourne under the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia, held its second talk of 2023. The special guest for the night was Mr. Bill Pagomenos, committee member of the parish of The Three Hierarchs, Clayton. Also present was Father Nicholas from the parish of the Presentation of Our Lady to The Temple, Balwyn North.
The event was held at the parish of St Spyridon, Clayton South, where the late Protopresbyter George Athanasiadis, who reposed in the Lord on 2 March 2023, was parish priest. Before the talk started, a memorial service, presided by Fr Nicholas, was conducted for Father George.
A total of 50 young adults between the ages of 18-29 gathered to listen to Mr. Pagomenos speak about battling temptations. The Saint Spyridon church committee provided a generous spread of food for the attendees to enjoy before the talk.
In addition, Mr. Pagomenos explained that our soul yearns for God, but temptations often lead us to fill that void with worldly pleasures and other passions. At the same time, he shared thoughts on how we can transform ourselves and fill our hearts with God instead.
During the talk, Mr. Pagomenos also answered questions from the audience, providing practical advice on how to challenge our thought processes, recognise pride within ourselves, and avoid judging others.
Finally, GO Youth Melbourne thanked Mr. Pagomenos for taking the time to speak to the youth and young adults.
