Lanterns light up Athens sky in Christmas Eve celebration
Athens’ downtown Kotzia Square became the centre of Christmas Eve festivities as residents and visitors gathered to celebrate.
Mayor Haris Doukas invited attendees to share their Christmas wishes, accompanied by music from the radio station Athina 9.84 curated by producer Aristea Giannou.
The event featured 1,500 biodegradable lanterns released into the sky.
“This Christmas Eve, Kotzia Square was filled with light and music. Hundreds of lanterns carried our wishes into the Athenian sky. Wishing everyone health and joy for the year ahead,” Doukas said.
