President of Ukraine and the Ecumenical Patriarch communicate via telephone
On Wednesday, 21 August 2024, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy spoke by phone with His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who is currently on his summer visit to Imbros. During their conversation, President Zelenskyy personally thanked Patriarch Bartholomew for sending an official delegation to attend Ukraine’s national Independence Day celebrations on 24 August. He also expressed gratitude for the warm reception extended to his representatives during their recent visit to the Phanar.
In response, His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew conveyed his appreciation for the President’s call and reiterated his wishes for a swift restoration of peace in Ukraine. The Patriarch emphasised the unwavering support of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for the Ukrainian people amidst the ongoing conflict.
The official delegation from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which includes Their Eminences, Metropolitan Hilarion of Winnipeg and Metropolitans Job of Pisidia, along with Patriarchal Deacon Father Epiphanius Kamyanovich, has already arrived in Ukraine to participate in the upcoming Independence Day events.
