Victoria: The Feast Day of Saint Dimitrios in Moonee Ponds, Archdiocesan District of Northcote

With ecclesiastical splendour and with the participation of a large number of faithful believers, the memory of the Holy Great Martyr Dimitrios the Myrrh-flowing was celebrated at the Church of Saint Dimitrios in the suburb of Moonee Ponds, Melbourne, in the Archdiocesan District of Northcote, Victoria.

On the eve of the feast during the Great Vespers, His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, Archiepiscopal Vicar of Northcote officiated, who also on the main day of the feast officiated at the Matins and presided over the Festive Divine Liturgy, joined by the Holy Clergy of the Archdiocesan District of Northcote.

The Vespers service was attended by students of Saint John’s College, Preston, as well as students of the Greek School “Saint Kosmas Aitolos” from the school group based at the Parish of Saint Dimitrios. At the end of Vespers, the children chanted the Apolytikion (Dismissal Hymn) of Saint Dimitrios.

His Grace Bishop Evmenios conveyed to the congregation the prayers and wishes of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, and preached the holy sermon, referring to the person of Saint Dimitrios and his virtues. He especially emphasised that Saint Dimitrios taught more with his actions than with his words and by the example of his life he brought many people to the true faith.

During the divine liturgy, the holy sermon was delivered by the visiting cleric from Greece, Father Nicholas Dalagiorgos.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, a litany of the Holy Relics of Saint Dimitrios took place, while a festive meal followed with the participation of all the parishioners.
