Memorial Service for the victims of the shipwreck in Pylos by Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia
At the pier of the port of Kalamata, at the point where since last Wednesday the eyes and thoughts of all of us have turned, where life and death stood opposite each other, there was held at noon on Sunday, 18 June 2023, a Trisagion memorial service held by His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia in memory of the victims of the tragic shipwreck that took place last Tuesday evening, off Pylos.
Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Messinia was joined also by the Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis of Messinia, Archimandrite Philippos Hamargias, the dean of the Church of the Ascension of Christ in Kalamata, and Deacon Theophilos Kyriakos. Present from the political world, were the former Minister of Education Ms. Niki Kerameos, Members of Parliament, Mr. Konstantinos Karagounis and Miltos Chrysomallis, the Regional Governor of the Peloponnese Mr. Pan. Nikas, several members of the Municipal Council of Kalamata and the Regional Council of the Peloponnese, volunteers of the Red Cross, The Harbour Master of Kalamata Mr. Nikolaos Konstantellis, the Police Director of Messinia, Mr. Dimitrios Roidis and many residents of the area.
After the conclusion of the memorial service, His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos and the representatives of the Authorities threw symbolic rose petals into the sea, hoping that this would be the last tragic event in the Mediterranean.
