Memory of Thessaloniki’s patron St. Gregory Palamas, the Wonder-worker venerated on Sunday
The memory of one of two of Thessaloniki’s patron saints, St. Gregory Palamas, the Wonder-worker Archbishop of Thessaloniki, was celebrated on the second Sunday of Great Lent, with festive events centered at the Metropolitan Cathedral, where the Holy Relic of the saint is preserved and venerated by the faithful. As per centuries-old ecclesiastical tradition, the Holy Relics was placed before the Bishop’s throne.
Afterwards, the saint’s Holy Relic and Icon were conveyed in a litany procession around the central streets of Thessaloniki, accompanied by a military band.
