GO Youth Melbourne: Tavern Night
On Saturday 11 February 2023, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and under the guidance of His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, Go Youth Melbourne held its first tavern night. We were fortunate to be joined for the night by the Kogarah Youth Group from Sydney.
They were part of the 150 youth in attendance. The event was located at the parish hall of Sts Raphael, Nicholas and Irene in Bentleigh, Victoria. His Grace Bishop Kyriakos, together with His Grace Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia and Father Chris from the hosting parish, welcomed the youth at the start of the night and blessed the food.
A warm and energetic ambiance emanated through the hall as the youth welcomed the opportunity to mingle with faces familiar and new. The youth embraced all opportunities to dance, from regional traditional Greek dances to Greek pop and 2000s throwback classics.
The guests were also treated to a delicious spread of taverna style Greek food. Lucky winners in the raffle came away with a number of great donated prizes including wine hampers from Psarakos Market, Gold Class tickets, a Nefysi Greek skincare pack, candles and a box full of chocolates.
