The memory of the Repose of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian on the Holy Island of Patmos
The memory of the reposse of Saint John the Theologian was celebrated on the Holy island of Patmos with due splendor, with the focus of the celebration being the Holy Royal, Patriarchal and Stavropegic Coenobitic Monastery of Saint John the Theologian.
Following the invitation of the Patriarchal Exarch of Patmos and Abbot of the Monastery, Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne, Very Rev. Father Kyrillos, His Eminence Metropoloitan Platon of Lagadas, Litis and Rentini and brother of the Monastery presided over the Divine Services, who was accompanied by clergymen of the holy island and other regions, while the His Eminence Metropolitan Panteleimon of Veroia, Naoussa and Kampania, was present also praying from within the Holy Altar along with his entourage.
A large number of believers attended Vespers, the Holy Vigil and the Divine Liturgy which was held according to the Patmian Typikon, in the catholicon of the Holy Monastery, at the end of which the Holy Litany, the Artoklasia, took place, and the storerooms of the Monastery were also blessed.
In his short address, Metropolitan Platon referred to the person of the Beloved disciple of our Lord, while at the same time he thanked once again His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew for the formal permission and blessing he granted him for the celebration of the consecration of the Holy Chapel of the Holy Hieromartyr Platon of Patmos a few days ago, as well as the Abbot of the Monastery, Very Rev. Father Kyrillos, for the invitation to preside and participate at the celebrations of the feast day.
