NSW records 1,043 new local cases of COVID-19 and 11 deaths

New South Wales has reported 1,043 new locally acquired COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths.

The fatalities involved five women and six men – ten were unvaccinated. They ranged in age from people in their 40s to those in their 90s.

Two died at home and were tested for COVID-19 after they had passed away.

“Again it shows we cannot be complacent with COVID and we need to take precautionary action and get vaccinated,” NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant told reporters on Friday.

The death toll from this current outbreak is 277.

Of the 1,186 COVID-19 patients now in hospital, 232 cases are in the ICU.

A third of children aged 12 to 15 have received their first dose of a vaccine, Premier Gladys Berejiklian also announced.

“We’ve seen the vaccination rates go through the roof,” Premier Gladys Berejiklian said planning continues as the vaccination coverage approaches the 70 and 80 per cent double dose.

“Depending on the number of cases, determines how mobile we can be outside of our own areas.”

Traces of COVID-19 was detected in sewage samples from Lightning Ridge in western NSW, Jindabyne in southern NSW, Crookwell in the Southern Tablelands, and South Lismore in northern NSW.

NSW Health said no previous cases had been recorded in these areas.
