30-year anniversary of enthronement of His Beatitude Archbishop of Albania Anastasios

Yesterday, August 2nd, marked the 30-year anniversary of the enthronement of His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios as the Primate of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania.

Anastasios assumed the throne of the Archdiocese of Durres, Tirana and All Albania after a quarter decade ban on all religions in the Adriatic country, imposed and enforced by one of the most brutal and isolationist communist regimes the world had ever seen.

His Beatitude’s enthronement was performed in 1992 at the Metropolitan Cathedral of the Theotokos in Tirana.

The painstaking efforts to rebuild the Orthodox Church and rekindle the flame of Christian Orthodoxy in a land where it existed from late antiquity witnessed the glorious re-emergence of the Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania.

On this occasion, the Orthodoxia news agency has today posted a documentary and travelogue filmed in Albania, detailing the ministry and works of Archbishop Anastasios, the hierarchs and clergy of the Albanian Church.

Additionally, the Pemptousia platform today will post a previous interview with His Beatitude, given to journalist Maria Giachnaki, and referring to Orthodox Christian missionary work in Africa.

In a related development, the Metropolitan of Kinshasa, His Eminence Theodosios, spoke to the Orthodoxia news agency this week on construction of the first Orthodox church being built in the city of Bandundu, in the southwest part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
