220 Years of the Greek National School of Vienna

On 9 March 2024, at the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, Vienna, a special event took place, for the 220th anniversary of the Greek National School of Vienna, as part of the World Day of the Greek Language celebrations.

His Eminence Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria, Exarch of Hungary and Central Europe, attended and spoke at the event, while the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece, Mr. Giorgos Kotsiras, also attended.

In his greeting, the Deputy Minister assured the support of the Greek State for the School’s work and emphasised: “In this sacred space, the coupling of two very important axes for Hellenism, the Greek language and Orthodoxy, takes place.” After all, the preservation of the Greek language and ties with the ecclesiastical institutions of Orthodoxy are key axes of the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Hellenism Abroad, noted Mr. Kotsiras, and he particularly referred to actions that promote the learning of the Greek Language, such as the expansion of online platform staellinika.com and in German.

Earlier, the Deputy Minister was received by His Eminence Metropolitan Arsenios of Austria, whom he congratulated for his great spiritual and administrative work, which guarantees the continuation of the School’s centuries-old operation.
