Australian Byzantine Music Composers – Call for submissions

The Melisma Ensemble has taken the initiative in organising a concert with works of Australian composers of Byzantine music. The following is the relative announcement and call for submissions from the Director of the Melisma Ensemble, Mr. Dimitri Koubaroulis:

Melisma Ensemble is delighted to be organising a Byzantine Chant concert showcasing the works of Australian composers of Byzantine Chant; an opportunity to celebrate Byzantine Music as a living tradition in the Antipodes.

We would like to extend an invitation to all to submit compositions for consideration, and to participate as chanters at the concert, which is likely to take place in late 2024 or early 2025.

Compositions need to be your original works in the traditional monophonic Byzantine style, written in Byzantine notation. Both ecclesiastical and secular compositions (folk/art songs) are eligible. If you have compositions of other Australian composers, you are welcome to submit them too, subject to their written consent, where appropriate. Submissions will give the right to Melisma Ensemble to publish them as recordings or musical scores or both, with full acknowledgement of the author and no other expectation, financial or other kind.

Please send your compositions in PDF format and expressions of interest to participate to [email protected]. For updates, follow us on @melismaensemble on socials, and our website melismaensemble.com.

Submissions close date is the 30th of September 2024.

We look forward to hearing from you and will be happy to assist with any questions.
