Zakynthos: The Feast Day of Saint Dionysios

The Island of Zakynthos joyously honoured its Patron Saint, the Saint of Mercy and Forgiveness, Saint Dionysios the wonderworker, who is present always in the sorrows and needs of the people.
On Sunday morning, 17 December 2023, the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy took place, presided over by His Eminence Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Dodonis, who was joined also by Their Eminences, Metropolitan Athenagoras of Ilion, Acharnes and Petroupolis, Metropolitan Bartholomew of Polyana and Kilkis, and Their Graces, Bishop Nikiforos of Amorion and Bishop Nektarios of Karioupolis, and the local Shepherd, His Eminence Metropolitan Dionysios IV of Zakynthos.
It should be noted that His Eminence Metropolitan Dionysios IV of Zakynthos celebrated his patronal feast day on this day, although – as announced – he did not officially celebrate it and would not accept wishes and visits.

After the Divine Liturgy, at 11 a.m. – as is usual – there was a grand Procession of the venerable relics of the Patron Saint of Zakynthos, Saint Dionysios, in the city. The weather was quite temperate, so many locals of Zakynthos were able to make their way to His Church and pray in comfort. With the return of the procession, in the Propylaea of the Church, many intercessory prayers took place and the Saint was returned to the door of His Church of veneration, amid a thunderous firework display.
