Young Greek Australian students observe traditional customs on Clean Monday
On the morning of Clean Monday, at St Spyridon’s College in Sydney, Year 12 students prepared traditional Lagana bread, observing one of the traditional customs of the first day of Lent, which has its honour on this day at the Lenten table.
Moreover, at Saint John’s Greek Orthodox College in Preston, the year 7 and year 8 students, as part of their Greek studies, experienced the joy of kite flying, in the clear skies of Melbourne.
The revival of these ancestral customs contributes to deepening the connection of the young Greek Orthodox students with Hellenism, to a deeper understanding and appreciation of their Greek origin and ultimately to the formation of their identity.
