WCC congratulates Archbishop Ioannis of Albania

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay extended congratulations to His Beatitude Archbishop-elect Ioannis of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania.

“May the grace of our Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—guide and strengthen you in your new ministry, as you shepherd the faithful and bear witness to Christ’s Gospel in Albania and beyond,” wrote Pillay. “Your election as the Primate of the Church of Albania comes as a recognition of your deep theological wisdom, steadfast faith, and tireless service to the Orthodox Church of Albania.”

Pillay expressed gratitude for the Archbishop-elect’s active role in the ecumenical movement and his longstanding engagement with the WCC. “The World Council of Churches has been blessed by the Orthodox Church of Albania’s engagement in the ecumenical movement, particularly through the profound theological, pastoral, and spiritual leadership of the late Archbishop Anastasios,” said Pillay. “Your ministry begins at a time when the world is in great need of hope, healing, and reconciliation.”

Pillay offered assurances of prayers and support for His Beatitude Archbishop-elect Ioannis of Tirana, Durrës and All Albania

May God grant you wisdom, strength, and many blessed years in your sacred ministry,” Pillay concluded.

Bishop Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, moderator of the WCC central committee, also extended congratulations. “The choice could not have been better,” he said. “With all your experience, your spiritual strength, your theological depth, and your pastoral presence, you will be a blessing to the church of Albania.”
