Vespers for the feast day of Saint George the Great Martyr in Hobart, Tasmania
With the Blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the Archiepiscopal Vicar of Canberra, His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Charioupolis visited the island of Tasmania and presided over the Vespers service for the feast of the Great Martyr George the Trophy-Bearer.
In his sermon His Grace spoke about the desire and love, the divine eros St George had to be with Christ.
Although he held a senior position in the army, the Saint neglected the worldly status in order to acquire the heavenly status of being with Christ in the Eternal Kingdom.
Saint George endured trials, tribulations, physical pain however his goal was his motivation to continue in his stance against idolatry and return to his homeland, that is paradise.
Bishop Bartholomew emphasised that this desire, this divine eros we are called to have. That regardless of any position we might have, our primary goal must be to seek to be with Christ.
Concluding His Grace conveyed the love, blessings and respect of our Primate, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and wished the congregation a blessed feast day.
