Vasiliki Vasilopoulos, mother of Bishop Evmenios of Chora, passed away
With deep human sorrow and in the expectation of the common resurrection, the Holy Archdiocese of Australia announces the passing away of the mother of His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, the late Vasiliki Vasilopoulos, who fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, 27 December 2024, at the age of 79, in Melbourne.
Upon learning of the sad news, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, contacted His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Chora, to whom he expressed his sincere condolences, personally and on behalf of the Holy Eparchial Synod, the other Bishops, the Clergy and the Laity of the local Church, while he also conducted a Trisagion for the repose of the soul of Mrs Vasilopoulos. His Eminence prayed for the Lord to rest her blessed soul and grant courage, consolation and strength to her husband, Ioannis, to His Grace Bishop Evmenios and her other two children, Anna and Sotirios, and to her other relatives and friends.
The late Vasiliki Vasilopoulos was born in the village of Leontari in Boeotia and immigrated to Australia at the age of 20, in 1965. She settled in Melbourne, where she and her husband, Ioannis, created a blessed Christian family, nurturing their three children with the principles and values of the Nation and the Orthodox Faith.
The Funeral Service for the Late Vasiliki will be held on Saturday, 4 January 2025, at 10.30 am, at the Holy Monastery of Our Lady “Axion Esti”, in Northcote, Melbourne. The Burial service will take place at Fawkner Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers and wreaths, those who wish to do so, to make donations to the work of the Cultural Centre of Chora.
