Uganda: Commemoration of Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga at Saint Nicholas Cathedral
With the blessings of His Eminence Metropolitan Ieronymos of Kampala, His Grace Bishop Silvester of Jinja presided over the hierarchical Divine Liturgy and the special memorial service on Thursday, 5 September 2024, at Saint Nicholas Cathedral, commemorating three years since the repose of Metropolitan Jonah Lwanga. In concelebration with Bishop Silvester were Metropolitan Ieronymos of Kampala and Bishop Nectarios of Gulu whereas Metropolitan Innocentios Byakatonda co-performed the memorial service.
In his remarks, Bishop Silvester praised Metropolitan Jonah of blessed memory for the indelible mark he left on the Orthodox mission in Uganda and beyond. He added that it was astounding for the hierarch to fall asleep on the day of the commemoration of Prophet Zacharias (father of the Forerunner), as they both possessed bold characters in doing the work of God.
The Forefathers Education Fund was launched to carry on the philanthropic work of educating children.
