The unseen Acropolis Museum
The everyday life of the inhabitants of the southern cliff of the Acropolis Rock is presented in “the museum under the museum,” the new space of the Acropolis Museum that opened to the public on Wednesday. Most of the exhibits are displayed in a 34-meter showcase, like a “luminous crack in time.”
The some 1,100 artifacts, including statues, table games and children’s toys, were found during excavations in the area of the Acropolis Museum. “Placed on the southern fringes of the archaeological site [the exhibition] fits harmoniously into the visitor’s journey, contributing to the understanding of people’s everyday life,” said Culture Minister Lina Mendoni.
