The Service of the Akathist Hymn at the Metropolitan Church of Athens

The Service of the Akathist Hymn, which was chanted on Friday evening in all Orthodox Churches, was celebrated by His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, at the Holy Metropolitan Church of Athens.

In the official liturgical language, the service is called the “Akathist Hymn” or simply “the Akathist” from the upright standing posture that the faithful maintained throughout its chanting. Thus, both in words and in body posture, honour, special reverence, and thanksgiving to the Most Holy Theotokos are expressed.

The Hellenic Minister of Culture, Ms. Lina Mendoni, Members of Parliament and representatives of the Region were also present.
