The Funeral Service of Blessed Nun Eupraxia, Abbess of the Monastery of Saints Mary and Martha in Bethany
On Thursday, 2nd/15th August 2024, at 11:00 a.m. the funeral service of the Abbess Eupraxia who came from Cyprus to the Monastery of the sisters of Lazarus Saints Martha and Mary in Bethany was presided over by His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem.
Co-officiating with His Beatitude were their Eminences, the Archbishops, Dorotheos of Avila, Philoumenos of Pella, the Metropolitan Joachim of Helenoupolis, along with many Holy Sepulchre Fathers and Arabic-speaking priests, along with the chanting of the Hierodeacon Simeon and monk Joseph of Mount Athos.
The service was attended by the nuns of this Monastery and other Holy Monasteries of the Patriarchate, in the presence of the representative of the Greek Consulate General Mr. Athanasios Malios and the representative of the Russian Church of the Diaspora, Archimandrite Romanos the abbot of the Holy Monastery of Saint Mary Magdalene and the Mount of Olives and many believers from Jerusalem and other towns.
With the blessing of the Patriarch, the Elder Chief Secretary, His Eminence Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina read the Eulogy.
After the Funeral Service, the late abbess Eupraxia was interred in the Cemetery of the Monastery.
Subsequently, the nuns of the Monastery accepted the condolences of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem, His Entourage and all the participants in the funeral Procession, at the rectory of the Monastery.
His Beatitude called the nuns and provided them with monastic instruction and assigned Nun Sister Mitrodora as the new Abbess of the Monastery.
