The Feast of the miraculous and myrrh-flowing icon of Panagia Pisidiotissa
On Sunday, 8 September 2024, the Holy Metropolis of Pisidia celebrated the feast of the miraculous and myrrh-flowing Icon of the Theotokos of Pisidia (Panagia Pisidiotissa) at the Church which is dedicated in her honour in Alanya. The local Shepherd, His Eminence Metropolitan Job of Pisidia presided over the feast day liturgical services, and was joined in concelebration by his Auxiliary Bishop, His Grace Bishop Ambrosios of Eudokiada, along with the participation of Patriarchal Deacon Epiphanios Kamianovic, the clergy from the Metropolis, and many faithful believers from the Parishes of Alanya, Side and Antalya
In his sermon, Metropolitan Job referred to the miracles performed by this ancient Byzantine icon found in the church of Panagia in Sozopolis of Pisidia, which healed Saint Theodore of Sykeon and gave children to a couple with the intervention of Saint Eutychios of Constantinople. Metropolitan Job also pointed out that, after the 8th century, traces of this ancient Byzantine miraculous icon were lost, but thanks to a copy preserved in Russia, which belonged to the mother of Tsar Mikhail Fedorovich Romanov, the late Metropolitan Sotirios Trambas commissioned the creation of another one copy in 2014 and then built this beautiful church in Alanya in her honour.
The festivities ended with a beautiful concert by the children of the Parish Sunday School and the Russian School of Alanya, after which a communal feast day meal was offered to all present.
