The Feast Day of the placing of the honourable Robe of the Theotokos in Vlachernae

The Feast Day of the placing of the Honourable Robe of the Theotokos was celebrated with due ecclesiastical splendour on Tuesday, 2 July 2024, at the Holy Sacred Spring of the Mother of God of Vlachernae in Constantinople.

The Feast Day Divine Liturgy was presided over by His Grace Bishop Adrianos of Halicarnassus, Supervisor of the Phanar-Golden Horn Districts.

The Divine Liturgy was followed by a Procession of the Holy Icon of Panagia Vlachernae in the courtyard of Church.

In the Church of Vlachernae, which had been built by Queen Pulcheria, daughter of Emperor Arcadius and wife of Emperor Marcian (451 – 457 AD), were the burial cloths of the Virgin Mary, which had been sent by the Patriarch Juvenalius of Jerusalem, had been deposited. When Leo I the Thracian was emperor (457 – 474 AD), the patricians Galbius and Candidus brought from Jerusalem the holy robe of the Most Holy Theotokos. Leo I took the robe and deposited it in the Church of Vlachernae, in a golden casket.
