The Feast Day of Saint Barbara the Great Martyr at the Patriarchate of Jerusalem

On Tuesday, December 4th/17th, 2024, the feast of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara was celebrated by the Patriarchate. Saint Barbara, a young woman from Heliopolis, was martyred in AD 305 by her cruel father for her confession of faith in Christ. The celebration took place at her chapel, located inside the Holy Monastery of Saint Nicholas, near the Patriarchate.

The Divine Liturgy was officiated by Archimandrite Klaudios, with the assistance of Hierodeacon Evologios, and the participation of monks and nuns, along with the preparation by the Hegoumen, Archdeacon Mark.

On the same day, the feast of St. John of Damascus, the great hymnographer and writer of our Holy Church, was also celebrated. He lived at the Holy Lavra of St. Sabbas and peacefully slept in the Lord there in the year 747.

The Divine Liturgy during the all-night vigil was led by His Eminence Archbishop Aristoboulos of Madaba, with Hierodeacon Simeon chanting, and the participation of the Fathers of the Holy Monastery through their spiritual father, Archimandrite Eudokimos, as well as Arabic-speaking Orthodox faithful from the surrounding areas of Bethlehem.
