The Feast Day of Holy Epiphany at the Cathedral of Sydney

The Feast of Holy Epiphany was celebrated with due ecclesiastical splendour and reverence at the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady in Sydney, presided over by His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

His Eminence officiated at the Matins Service, performed the Great Blessing of the Waters and presided over the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on the great feast day of Orthodoxy, and who joined by the Chancellor of the Holy Archdiocese and Dean of the Cathedral, Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne, Christophoros Krikelis, his Assistant Priest, Archimandrite Stephanos Tinikashvili, and other clergy of the city of Sydney.

Among the large congregation were the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Mr. Ioannis Mallikourtis, with his wife, the Archon of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, Criminologist from Greece, Mr. Athanasios Kehagioglou, and the Vice President of “Saint Basil’s Aged Care Homes”, Dr Theo Penklis, with his wife.

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Archbishop Makarios paternally wished everyone to receive divine enlightenment and every heavenly blessing in their lives. Furthermore, he wished that all the people would possess spiritual clarity so that they may distinguish their enlightened brothers and sisters, and enlightened voices from the erratic and disorienting ones.

It is noted that the official Epiphany celebration (Epiphany Greek Festival), with the ceremony of the Blessing of the Waters and with the participation of all parishes in Sydney, will take place on Sunday, 12 January 2025 (from 1:00pm), at Carss Bush Park. It will be preceded by the celebration of a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in the suburb of Kogarah, Sydney (from 7:00am).
