The Archbishop of Australia at the Australian Parliament for the National Memorial Service for HM Queen Elizabeth II
On Thursday, September 22, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, participated and represented Orthodox Hellenism of the fifth continent in the National Memorial Service for HM Queen Elizabeth II, which took place at the Australian capital, as part of the National Day of Mourning for the loss of the former monarch of the Commonwealth.
The memorial service took place in the Great Hall of the Federal Parliament in Canberra, in the presence of the Governor-General of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable David John Hurley AC DSC (Retd), Prime Minister of Australia, The Hon Anthony Albanese MP, and other high-ranking officials of the country.
His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, who was accompanied by the Chancellor of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, Archimandrite of the Ecumenical Throne, Very Rev. Father Christophoros Krikelis and Deacon Father Meliton Haridimos, after the conclusion of the memorial service met and spoke with expatriate parliamentarians, ministers, and ambassadors.
