Tanzania: Weddings and baptisms in the first Orthodox community of Singida

The Orthodox presence is spreading to every corner of the spiritual jurisdiction of the Holy Diocese of Arusha and Central Tanzania.

Two years ago, in the area of Singida, the first Orthodox core was formed, as reported by ierapostolikistegi.gr,and its members were catechised and received Holy Baptism in the city of Arusha. In the meantime, a Church was built in honour of Saint Nektarios, donated by the Mr. Christos Rousogiannis family, for the liturgical needs of the believers. Also, one of the pioneers of Orthodoxy in this region, Father Nektarios, was ordained a priest.

Last weekend saw the baptisms of catechumens in the newly built baptistery of Singida and the marriages of couples, thus consolidating the Orthodox presence in the western end of the Diocese.

“We hope that our newly enlightened brothers and sisters will preserve the grace of Holy Baptism and that the work of our Church will progress, so that as many of our brothers and sisters as possible will come to know the truth of Orthodoxy”, points out ierapostolikistegi.gr.

On the day of the baptisms, a meal was offered by Ms. Sotiria Kitsa, in memory of her husband, Anastasios.
