Sydney: «St Elesa Food Initiative» – A Night of Giving and Fellowship
The “St Elesa Food Initiative” held a particularly heartwarming distribution event of food and personal hygiene items in Sydney, in the presence of His Grace Bishop Christodoulos of Magnesia, Hierarchical Proistamenos of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ, Panagia Myrtidiotissa and St. Elesa in Kogarah, and with the support of the dedicated members of the Philoptochos Association of the Parish and the Orthodox Youth (Kogarah Orthodox Youth).
Over 520 meals were distributed, ensuring that individuals and families facing hardship received a nourishing meal. In addition, more than 75 special summer packs were handed out to those sleeping rough on the streets of Sydney. These packs, donated by the generous parishioners of Kogarah, included essential items such as toothpaste, sunscreen, hats, shampoo, deodorants, wipes, and other hygienic necessities to help combat the challenges of summer. The summer packs were prepared with love and care by the hardworking Kogarah Philoptochos.
With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, the St Elesa Food Initiative has been faithfully serving the destitute, vulnerable, and homeless for over four years. Each passing year highlights the growing need for support in our society, and we are deeply grateful for the outpouring of generosity from our community, which enables us to continue this vital work.
This distribution event was a powerful reminder of the beauty of unity and service, as clergy, youth, and parishioners came together to embody the teachings of Christ through acts of love and compassion. We pray for continued strength and resources to meet the ever-increasing needs of those who rely on this initiative.
