Second Bookstore opening at the Greek Welfare Centre SA
Sunday 4th of July was the official opening of the second outlet of the Central Philoptochos bookstore, at the Greek Welfare Centre of SA.
With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Silouan of Sinope and at his initiative, the Central Philoptochos of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia – District of Adelaide operates an Orthodox bookstore to service the needs of the Orthodox faithful. It stocks and sells a wide variety of Orthodox books and devotional items such as prayer ropes, icons and vigil lamps, as well as some Greek food items (fasting and non-fasting) that are not widely available here in Australia.
The Central Philoptochos originally opened its bookstore in 2020, in the Archdiocesan offices at St Panteleimon, Glenelg. In an effort to reach more people, a further two outlets have since been opened – the second at the Greek Welfare Centre SA – St Philothei (GWC) in Torrensville, and the third at the Holy Monastery of St Nectarios, Croydon Park.
Following the success of the official Grand Opening of the bookstore in October last year, the Central Philoptochos is hosting a similar event at the second outlet at the GWC. From Saturday 3rd of July to Saturday 10th of July 2021, the Central Philoptochos is hosting a special bookstore exhibition to augment the permanent book display. The official opening on Sunday which was the highlight of this exhibition, included an Agiasmos service celebrated by His Grace Bishop Silouan and was attended by over 50 people. It was a good opportunity for people to come and see not only the bookstore, but also to become familiar with the Greek Welfare Centre and the important role that it plays in the mission of the Archdiocese. In all it was an enjoyable afternoon and a wonderful witness to the work of our Archdiocese in Adelaide.
