School event of the Patriarchal School of Sion for the National Anniversary of 25th March 1821

On the afternoon of Tuesday, March 13th/26th, 2025, a school event took place at the Patriarchal Seminary School of Holy Sion to celebrate the national commemoration of 25 March 1821.

The event was honoured by the presence of His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, Hierarchs of the Holy Sepulchre Brotherhood, priests, monks, the President of the School Board, His Eminence Archbishop Isidoros of Hierapolis, in the presence of the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem, His Excellency Mr Dimitrios Angelopoulos, other members of the Greek Consulate, members of the Greek community, teachers, parents, nuns, and a few devout pilgrims, who filled the school’s event hall to capacity.

This excellently organised event included an introduction by the Managing Director of the shool, Archimandrite Matthaios, the official speech of the day by the professor of Philology, Mr. Triantafyllos, hymns, theatrical performances, which poignantly and movingly reminded the audience of the national, religious, and not class-based character of the struggle for Independence, as well as the role played by the Orthodox Christian spirit of all, Greeks and friends of Greece, of all ages and classes, who offered their fortunes, prepared teaching areas and battlefields, and even gave their lives for the common cause of the resurrection of our nation and people.

At the end of the event, His Beatitude and the Consul General congratulated all those involved in its organisation.

A rich, festive and fasting-friendly reception followed.
