Sanctification and commencement of classes at the Patriarchal School “Saint Athanasios” of Alexandria
On Monday, October 3, 2022, Pope and Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa performed the sanctification service on the occasion of the beginning of the new academic year 2022-2023 at the Patriarchal School of Saint Athanasios.
During his brief visit, the Patriarch of Alexandria addressed paternal prayers and wishes to African students, whom he assured that he would personally take care of their further course and their future ministry, after their graduation and their return to their birthplace. He expressed infinite gratitude to the President of the country, Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, for the permission he grants to the Patriarchate for the operation of the School.
He also thanked Archimandrite Isaac Tsapoglou and the educational staff for their diligent and conscientious service.
The Scholarch thanked the Patriarch of Alexandria for this honor and developed the Patriarch’s vision for the training of tomorrow’s members of the Patriarchate.
Concluding his speech, the Scholarch added: “They should be able to take some light from the Lighthouse of this Patriarchal School of Alexandria and convey it to their place so that it burns like a sleepless canid, stating their reference and devotion, to the Mother Church of Alexandria and it’s Primate.”
Brief History of the School
Alongside the Patriarchal Schools of Nairobi and Kinshasa, the Patriarchal School of Alexandria Saint Athanasius began operating in 2007, with the aim of cultivating skills and acquiring the necessary qualifications to provide fruitful missionary work in the midst of the special and often adverse conditions of life and action on the African continent. It is housed in the Holy Monastery of Saint Savvas the Sanctified, providing the hosted scholars with the appropriate learning environment for the achievement of the objectives of the educational program, as it is supervised and evaluated by a special Scientific Council with the participation of the university professors.
