Romanian Patriarchate: Νew outdoor photo exhibition, “Our Parents and Grandparents”

In the context of the Solemn Year of the Pastoral Care of the Elderly, an exhibition titled “Our Parents and Grandparents” is held at the the Romanian Patriarchate’s Hill.

The exhibition, which features dozens of frames depicting serene portraits of elderly persons, will be open to the public beginning on Wednesday. The inauguration date is symbolic, as the Orthodox Church commemorates Saint Marinus the Elder on October 18. The pictures were taken by Basilica.ro photojournalists Raluca Ene and Mircea Florescu.

“This outdoor exhibition curated by photojournalists from Basilica.ro is meant to reinforce Patriarch Daniel’s message at the beginning of this year that the Church must assist the elderly in overcoming a lack of trust, sorrow, and isolation.

At the same time, we want this exhibition to convey an impactful message to Romanian society that visiting those in retirement homes or other social institutions represents a concrete act of philanthropy, well-pleasing to God”, says Aurelian Iftimiu, director of the Basilica News Agency.

“The photographs are displayed to encourage clergy, monastics and lay people not to limit themselves to distant acts of charity (such as donations), but to rather sacrifice their personal time to console the lonely and sick,” notes the director of the Basilica News Agency of the Romanian Patriarchate.

The photos can be seen until November 22, 2023. The exhibition is organised with the blessing of His Beatitude Patriarch Daniel and with the support of Brâncuși Parish, Patriarchal Metochion, in Bucharest’s Sector 6.
