Repatriation of 33 Greek citizens from Syria successfully completed

The repatriation of 33 Greek citizens and their families from Syria was successfully completed on Monday through the coordinated efforts of Greece’s Foreign Ministry and the Greek embassies in Damascus and Beirut, the Foreign Ministry announced in a statement.

The ministry also reaffirmed its full preparedness to provide any necessary assistance. Eighteen of the repatriated individuals will be accommodated at a guest camp in Elefsina, west of Athens, for approximately two months.

According to the Ministry of Migration and Asylum, all necessary arrangements for their accommodation and meals have been made.

Dimitris Glymis, Secretary General for Reception of Asylum Seekers, visited the facility to welcome the returnees and reassured them of the ministry’s commitment to supporting them during their stay.

He also met with the facility staff to express his gratitude for their role in ensuring the successful implementation of the reception process.

The situation in Syria after the fall of the Assad regime remains highly unstable, with ongoing conflict between various factions, a humanitarian crisis, and a fragmented political landscape.
