President of Greece Konstantinos Tassoulas on the passing of Metropolitan Andreas of Konitsa

“Metropolitan Andreas of Dryinoupolis, Pogoniani and Konitsa, who served Orthodoxy in his remote Metropolis with faith, devotion and self-denial, succumbed today physically, after a long illness, and fell asleep in the Lord, but his memory and work will never cease to accompany those of us who knew him,” said the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Konstantinos Tassoulas, in a statement on the passing of the late Metropolitan Andreas of Konitsa.

Furthermore, President Tassoulas spoke of “three decades of work in his beloved border province of Pogoni and Konitsa, as well as dynamic and uninterrupted support for the Greek national minority in Albania, with his constant anxiety and the mobilisation of all of us for the protection of the rights of “his children, the people of Northern Epirus”, as he affectionately called them.”

“The memory of this rich work of his, pastoral, social, patriotic and spiritual,” he pointed out, “will continue to set an example and commit to its continuation. I express my warm condolences on his passing. May his memory be eternal!”
