Perth: St Andrew’s Grammar Anzac Day Commemoration
St Andrew’s Grammar Day School held their Anzac Day commemoration on the morning of 27 April 2023. The whole school, as well as members of the wider community came together for the commemoration hosted by both Primary and Secondary student leadership team.
Unfortunately, the threat of rain meant that the Service needed to be moved from the outdoor amphitheatre to the indoor gymnasium, but this did not lessen the reverent nature of our commemoration. The service included a beautiful song, performed by our Primary School Choir, poems and prayers written and read by the students.
His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea read out the Message of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia for Anzac Day. His Eminence stated, “Therefore, fully aware of our historical responsibility, we bow down today in reverence to the glorious heroes of the Australian nation. Their example will always move us, inspire us and guide us. Lest we forget!”
Principal, Mr Craig Monoghan, gave an address regarding Anzac Day from a New Zealand perspective. This was then followed by a second address delivered by HaSS (Humanities and Social Science) teacher, Mr David Russell-Smith who is also a retired Lieutenant from the Australian Army.
The commemoration ended with the VIP members of the congregation laying a wreath of remembrance at the memorial located in the amphitheatre, led by St Andrew’s Grammar Principal, Mr Craig Monoghan and His Grace Bishop Elpidios.
