Perth conducts a three-year memorial anniversary for Archbishop Stylianos Harkianakis
On Saturday the 26th of March a special event was organised by the Archdiocesan District of Perth for the three-year memorial anniversary of Archbishop Stylianos Harkianakis of blessed memory.
The event took place at the Church of Saint Nektarios and commenced with a Trisagion Service presided by His Grace Bishop Elpidios of Kyanea.
In attendance was the Greek Consul in Perth, Mrs Georgia Karasiotou, as well as the President of the Hellenic Community of WA, Mr Paul Afkos, and the President of the Greek Orthodox Community of Evangelismos, Mr Ioannis Karakatsanakis.
His Grace mentioned in his speech that Archbishop Stylianos was a profound Theologian not only of the Greek Orthodox Church but of the Orthodox Church in general. He was not only a Theologian but also a poet which is an outstanding combination not commonly seen.
His Grace went on to speak about his personal experiences and how he was blessed to have Archbishop Stylianos as a lecturer at St Andrew’s Greek Orthodox Theological College. His lessons were always full of dynamism and always capturing the interest of all students.
This was then followed by the screening of the documentary titled, “An Opal of Many Colours” that spoke about the life, personality and work of the former Archbishop of Australia.
The evening ended with cocktail drinks in the Archdiocese conference room next door to the church which was organised by the Central Philoptochos
of St Tabitha.
