Palm Sunday celebrated at the Church of St John the Baptist, Cairns

With the Blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane travelled to Cairns, to celebrate the feast day of Palm Sunday.
His Grace delivered a sermon in both a Greek and English, emphasising the importance of welcoming Christ and into our hearts with genuine love and humility.
Moreover, His Grace mentioned that we must constantly strive to develop and strengthen our relationship to Christ otherwise we will be like those people who said “Hosanna, Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord”, and then days late cried out “Crucify, Crucify Him.”

At the end of the Divine Liturgy, His Grace thanked the priests of the parish, the Parish President and Archon of our Ecumenical Patriarch Mr Theodore Bacalakis, the Parish Council, the Ladies Philoptochos and all who serve the blessed parish of St John the Baptist in Cairns, for the love they have for the Church, for their unwavering commitment and support towards the Holy Archdiocese of Australia and for all that they do for the people of God.
Following the service, a seafood luncheon was organised providing the opportunity for His Grace to converse with the congregation.
Bishop Bartholomew conveyed the love and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and wished everyone a blessed Holy Week and a joyful Pascha.
