‘Oxi Day’ celebrations in Brisbane
With the blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, His Grace Bishop Bartholomew of Brisbane visited the church of Saint Paraskevi in Taigum and celebrated the Divine Liturgy, assisted by Parish Priest Father Athanasios Athanasiadis.
Following the Divine Liturgy, Father Athanasios read the encyclical by the Holy Eparchial Synod thanking the civil authorities, the clergy and laity on the successful visit of His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to Australia.
A Doxology for the commemoration of 28 October 1940 was conducted afterwards, praying for those who fought for faith and country. A memorial service was then held outside at the monument where various wreaths were laid in honour of our heroes of ‘OXI Day’.
At the end of the service His Grace Bishop Bartholomew conveyed to all the love and blessings of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia and informed the congregation on the upcoming visit of His Eminence to Brisbane in December.
