Overseas Greeks now able to e-register family changes through consulates
Major life events such as births, marriages and deaths of Greeks living abroad can now be e-entered by consulates directly onto Greece’s “Citizens Database”, cutting through red-tape processes that up to now took months to complete, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Digital Governance announced on Thursday.
The system has been accessible since January 1, 2022 to consular staff abroad who will enter the events taking place abroad, a joint ministry statement said.
As e-Governance Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis said, “Technology is our ally in a concerted effort we are making to bring our fellow Greeks living abroad closer to Greece” and create a state that is friendlier to its citizens.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Overseas Greeks and Public Diplomacy Andreas Katsaniotis said that the process responds to needs of overseas Greeks and serves them faster and better.
