Opening night of District of Melbourne’s ‘MAN OF GOD’ screening season
On a chilly, traffic-jammed night, the launch of the District of Melbourne’s MAN OF GOD screenings, under the blessing of His Grace Kyriakos of Sozopolis, took place at Hoyts Chadstone on Friday 6th May. The opulence of the venue, known world-over as “the Fashion Capital”, only raised expectations – and audiences were not disappointed.
The first of eight screening events – all of which sold out several weeks in advance – the packed theater of over 150 people came to watch one of this year’s most sought after independent films. Such was the demand, a second Chadstone screening for over 200 people was created, but this too sold out.
The audience was blessed with the presence of Fr. George Adamakis from Sts. Anargiri and Fr. Panagiotis Zoumboulis from St. Raphael, Nicholas & Irene parishes. The success of the night was magnified by its fundraising efforts for Archbishop Makarios’ latest charity initiative, “5 Loaves”.
After the event, there was a post-screening gathering at the nearby Fonda Mexican restaurant. In traditional fellowship style, 30 people came together to break fast-friendly quesadillas and drink red-wine sangrias. The easy-flowing conversations and formation of new friendships made the reality of a typical icy-Melbourne night irrelevant and prolonged the after party well after closing-time!
All eight screenings organised by the District of Melbourne have sold out.
