NSW Labor commits $2.5 Million towards Greek Orthodox Archdiocese Masterplan
An elected NSW Labor Government will provide $2.5 million to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia to help it deliver new community facilities at its site in Redfern.
The Masterplan to redevelop the Cathedral of the Annunciation of Our Lady includes the creation of a Great Hall, new conference and lecture facilities, as well as an upgrade to the St Andrew’s Theological College.
The Masterplan provides for the conservation of the 173 year old church and the creation of a library and museum that showcases the contribution people of Greek heritage have made to Australia.
The commitment is part of NSW Labor’s Fresh Start Plan to support faith communities right across the State.
Quotes attributed to Steve Kamper, Shadow Minister for Multiculturalism:
“This funding demonstrates NSW Labor’s support for the Greek Orthodox Community and its vision for the historic Cathedral site in Redfern.”
“Labor has always been the champion of our multicultural and multifaith communities in NSW.”
“Multiculturalism makes our state stronger and more vibrant – and projects like this make a real difference to the lives of the people in NSW.”
