On Sunday, 17 March 2024, at the Monastery of ‘Axion Esti’ in Northcote, Victoria, the Australian Greek Ex-Servicemen’s Association organised, as every year, an anniversary event to celebrate the upcoming anniversary of 25 March 1821 and pay tribute to the Heroes of the Struggle for the rebirth of Greece and independence.
After the Matins Service and Divine Liturgy, which His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta presided over, representing His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, a Doxology Service took place, after which wreaths were laid at the monument to the fallen located in the courtyard of the Archdiocesan Church.
The Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Mr. Emmanuel Kakavelakis, representatives of the Federal and State Parliaments, as well as representatives of local Greek organisations and schools, were also present for the anniversary event.
His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta also conveyed to all present, the blessings and wishes of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, in light of the celebration of the national anniversary, as well as for the beginning of Holy and Great Lent.
