Northcote: The Feast Day celebrations at the Holy Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle, Sunshine

Over the two days of Tuesday and Wednesday, 29 and 30 November 2022, the Holy Church of Saint Andrew the Apostle in the suburb of Sunshine of Melbourne celebrated its patronal feast day. The divine services were presided over and officiated by His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, Archiepiscopal Vicar of the Archdiocesan District of Northcote, who represented His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, and conveyed to the faithful the festive wishes and blessings of their Shepherd and Spiritual Father.
Many priests of the Archdiocesan District of Northcote joined His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta, both during the Great Vespers on the eve of the feast, and the Festive Divine Liturgy, on the following day.
In his homily, Bishop Evmenios spoke about the life of Saint Andrew the Apostle, focusing on the fact that the honoured Saint is the founder of the Church of Constantinople, that is, of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to which the Holy Archdiocese of Australia belongs. “The honour we have is great, therefore, Saint Andrew is also our patron saint”, noted His Grace, while pointing out that “on the one hand we must try to be like him and on the other hand we must care for of our Ecumenical Patriarchate, with our prayer, with our devotion and our obedience, which Saint Andrew himself founded”.
In closing, His Grace Bishop Evmenios of Kerasounta welcomed, on behalf of the Archbishop of Australia, the new President of the Parish Council, Eleni Christodoulou.
At the end of the Divine Liturgy, a procession of the Holy Icon of the Saint took place around the Holy Church.
