New Year’s Liturgy at St. Michael’s Cathedral highlighted unity and prayer for Ukraine
On the Feast of the Circumcision of the Lord and the commemoration of Saint Basil the Great, Archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia, His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine celebrated the Divine Liturgy of Saint Basil the Great on 1 January 2025, at the St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Cathedral, the central cathedral of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
His Beatitude was joined in concelebration by Bishop Yefrem of Vasylkiv, the monastic brotherhood of the Golden-Domed Monastery, and invited clergy.
Following the reading of the Gospel, His Beatitude delivered a sermon and offered a special prayer to the Lord in these times of danger for Ukraine.
During the service, prayers were offered for the soldiers defending Ukraine, for the government and people, and for the repose of the souls of all fallen defenders of the homeland and civilians who perished during the war.
At the conclusion of the service, Metropolitan Epifaniy recited a prayer for the beginning of the New Year, invoking God’s blessing upon Ukraine for victory and the establishment of a just peace.
