Mitsotakis highlights emergency measures for islands hit by quakes

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in his weekly review on Facebook, highlighted his government’s efforts to address the increased seismic activity in the Cyclades, including the creation of an emergency evacuation port in Santorini and an emergency grant for the islands affected by the tremors.
“The state is here, standing by its citizens. The Minister of Civil Protection has announced the creation of an emergency evacuation port in Santorini, in collaboration with the Armed Forces, to ensure a safe evacuation route if ever needed,” Mitsotakis said.
“At the same time, in addition to the support measures for businesses and workers that we announced last week for our island residents, the Ministry of the Interior is proceeding with an emergency grant of 850,000 euros to the municipalities of Thira, Amorgos, Anafi, and Ios to cover their immediate needs following the disruption caused by the earthquakes,” he added.
Mitsotakis also stated that over the past days, the number of tremors appears to have decreased. However, he noted that scientists continue to monitor the situation, estimating that the seismic activity will take time to fully subside.
