On Tuesday, 25 March 2025, on the occasion of the Feast of the Annunciation of the Theotokos and the celebration of the commencement of the Greek War of Independence of 1821, the Metropolitan of Nigeria traveled to Abuja, the Capital of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following the invitation from the Greek Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Mr. Athanasios Kotsionis, and his wife, Mrs. Ioanna Dimitriou, in order to attend the official reception hosted by the Greek Embassy in honour of the national anniversary.

The event was attended by representatives of the Greek community, diplomatic corps, officials of the Nigerian government, as well as distinguished personalities from the fields of business and culture.

His Eminence Metropolitan Nikodemus of Nigeria conveyed to the Ambassador the Patriarchal wishes and blessings of His Beatitude Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, Theodoros II, while also expressing his sincere gratitude for the substantial support and excellent cooperation. Metropolitan Nikodemus had the honour of meeting and working with Ambassador Athanasios Kotsionis during the latter’s tenure as Consul General of Greece in Alexandria, Egypt, a period that contributed to the strengthening of ties of friendship and cooperation.
