Metropolitan of Kyiv met French Ambassador to discuss Ukraine’s challenges

On June 20, 2024, His Beatitude Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine met with the Ambassador of France to Ukraine, Gael Veseyer, at his residence.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine shared with the guest the significance of St. Michael’s Golden-Domed Monastery. He highlighted its important role in the history of both the Church and the state, and emphasised its current status as a place of honour, commemorating the fallen defenders of Ukraine.

They also discussed the state’s support in countering the full-scale Russian attack, the social and religious situation, the role of the Church in Ukrainian society, the service of chaplains in the army, the aggressor’s attempts to exploit the Church and issues of faith to further its aggressive goals, and several other topics of common interest.

At the end of the meeting, Metropolitan Epifaniy thanked the ambassador for France’s friendly stance and support for Ukraine during this time of war.

“We stand strong, yet fighting against such a massive Russian invasion is immensely challenging without support. I deeply appreciate the communication and assistance extended by the French Republic. This solidarity is invaluable to us; it reminds us that we are not alone and fuels our determination to persevere. We are also thankful to President Emmanuel Macron of France for his courageous and significant proposals to aid Ukraine,” concluded the Metropolitan.
