Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa and Tyrnavos receives Honorary Doctorate from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
In the presence of His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and all Greece, and the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs of Greece, Mr. Christos Kittas, the ceremony of conferring the title of Honorary Doctorate of the Department of Social Theology and Religion of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens on His Eminence Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa and Tyrnavos, took place on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 30, in the Great Hall of the University of Athens.

The Chancellor of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Mr. Meletios-Athanassios Dimopoulos welcomed the attendees and made a brief reference to the work and the contribution of Metropolitan Ieronymos.
This was followed by the presentation of the work and personality of the honoree, by the professor of the Department of Social Theology and Religion, Mr. Emmanuel Karageorgoudis.
Afterwards, the President of the Department of Social Theology and Religion, Metropolitan Kyrillos of Krini and Patriarchal Exarch of Malta, read the resolution, while immediately after, the honoree was dressed with the School’s gown by the Dean of the Theological School of the University of Athens, Associate Professor Mr. Christos Karagiannis.
Immediately after, the honoured Doctor Emeritus Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa and Tyrnavos, offered his address, on the topic: “for nothing is so characteristically Christian as the being a peacemaker,” (Saint Basil the Great, Epistle 114, PG 32, 528B)”.
