Memorial service in Tripoli on anniversary of Theodoros Kolokotronis’ death
Yesterday, Feb. 4, marks the anniversary of the death of Theodoros Kolokotronis, the Greek general and pre-eminent leader of the Greek War of Independence against the Ottoman Empire.
Kolokotronis died in Athens in 1843 at the age of 73, having lived to see the independence of southern and central Greece, many islands, and the establishment of the modern Greek state.
The Metropolitan of Mantinia and Kynouria, His Eminence Alexandros, on Sunday will conduct a memorial service at the Cathedral of St. Vassilios, in the central Peloponnese city of Tripoli, for the repose of the soul and in memorium for Theodoros Kolokotronis.
The online platform Pemptousia, on the occasion of the anniversary of Kolokotronis’ death, will post lectures and documentaries on the life and struggle of the Greek general.
